Well, for the purposes of this 'little things of christmas advent calendar' they can! Chocolate money is a ubiquitous symbol of christmas, buy some, give some, eat some!
I always had a bag of these in my Christmas stocking when I was child, and I continue the tradition with my girls. I note that M&S had added a couple of notes to their bags!
